Monday, 15th March, 2004 Council Elections Last year, the voters elected a State Government while distracted by John Howard’s reckless foreign policy. Without proper scrutiny, Labor was returned to office on the basis of promised improvements in transport which have now been cancelled. Post-election, Labor cancelled both the Parramatta and North West Rail Links. Its inadequate planning is now all too apparent to Cityrail commuters. While taxpayers will fund upgrades of the Cronulla line and the North Shore rail link (Epping - Chatswood), the Government offers the West only second rate busways to cater for massive new housing developments. Council elections are now due. Again we are distracted by threats from abroad, real and imagined. Will voters make the same mistake again? Or will they hold the ALP accountable for Sydney’s transport and planning mess? On March 27, voters should ask themselves this question: do I want my council run like Cityrail? If so, vote ALP. Yours faithfully, Philip Howell howell@bigpond.net.au | ||||
